Billy: Jules, y'know, honey... this isn't real. You know what it is? It's St. Elmo's Fire. Electric flashes of light that appear in dark skies out of nowhere. Sailors would guide entire journeys by it, but the joke was on them... there was no fire. There wasn't even a St. Elmo. They made it up. They made it up because they thought they needed it to keep them going when times got tough, just lik...

Joan Cusack in "Sixteen Candles" I really love this these clips. Love the chair when she is trying to drink a beer & falls back. It's soo Lol. Great 80's Comedy Movie....
He has DEAD EYES, no emotional reaction, physical reaction, nothing....I know the look, unfortunately still co habituating with same person it is beyond alarming....🫂🫂🫂❤️🩹❤️🩹💔💔
Only In Theaters: March 9, 1984
Year 1984
I figure that the mermaid's real name sounds A LOT BETTER in the water than it does out of the water. I believe that in the water, her name has a beautiful, musical aspect to it (i.e., "Madison" SINGS her true name). It's just like Harry Potter's golden egg in that sense. After all, that egg did speak in the voice of a mermaid! So, if Harry Potter opened this egg out of the water, it would make a series of terrible shrieks. And yet, if he opened this egg in the water (i.e., in the bathtub of the Prefects' bathroom), then it would sing beautifully to him. The egg's message was as follows: Come seek us where our voices sound, We cannot sing above the ground, An hour long you'll have to look, To recover what we took.
what film is THIS people ?
You guys, don't forget the editing😊
This movie is like the flip side of Steele Magnolias and Shirley MacLaine is in that too!!
I didn’t even notice that flap was sleeping in this scene.
Alguien se acuerda de esta película me podrían decir como se llamaba esta película
123 Splash
I am her
I had to look this up because I wanted to emphasize how cool I was just now to my friend in a text. I answered a phone call like “Yeah? Yeah. Yeah. Thanks.” Like a badass. I’m ordering food now. Mustache
Amu❤😢
Americans think they speak English from England
Daryl Hannah is soooo hot
I've been asked by my restaurant manager to not try to make this noise in the main dining room during my shifts..
gay hoes 🥰 0:38
She was allergic to cups and glasses?
Splash is a great movie and this scene was so damn hilarious 😊
The best performances ever
Everything in this movie is brilliant. It never gets old. I lose it every damn time. 😢😢
I love it!!
Yes amazing acting but great directing too. Rather than show the moment of death, he showed the mother reacting to it. Very rare and much more powerful than the standard death scene. I wonder how Debra Winger felt about it, since every actor loves playing a death scene.
Never watched this movie before. Why is she dying. Did she have a illness?
Peter Griffin killed her.
I love how they created a mermaid language to say he name. Its fascinating 😮
But how did they make the high pitched squeaking? A creaky hinge? Pulling a balloon end?
One of the best films
Debra was great
My name is stop stealing from the vineyard
Break that stupid mocker you wait until i learn to talk and your done
My friends and I used to listen to Red Eyes with that insane editing back in school. It randomly pops up on youtube once in a while and brings tears. Hymn to life and friends or something...
There's nothing harder, you're right😢
My favorite Tom Hanks movie right behind Big
This movie will bring the strongest man to his knees
One of the two most moving dying scenes in American cinematic history, the other being Melanie’s death in GWTW (Olivia de Havilland and Vivien Leigh).
Her real name reminds me of the little dolphin who cried dolphin noise from the Fairly Odd Parents 🤣🐬
Funny you should mention that, since “Fairly OddParents” creator Butch Hartman actually admitted on his podcast series “Speech Bubbles” that he based the character of Denzel Crocker on Eugene Levy’s character Walter Kornbluth from “Splash”: ua-cam.com/video/U2Ro_mGVnBc/v-deo.htmlm12s
This character was just as brilliant as a silent movie comedian, just like Charlie Chaplin or Buster Keaton. The character deserved her own movie of her coping with life as an adult still wearing her favorite shirt with her neck brace never saying much. Just as funny as Mr. Bean or other comical characters that are basically mimed silent comedies. She might be too old to pull off the character today, and people are too much into cancel culture and politically correctness to accept the character now. She is still my favorite part of 16 Candles.
“Hey how ‘bout those knicks?” Lol
I like Madison's voice
It’s Sheila Jackson from shameless in 1984
poo
See, she can't get a drink because her neck brace is in the way. This is funny...If you laugh at this, you are a bad person.
And YOU are humorless.
Jessie
Darryl was so incredibly beautiful and the best 80’s fashion model
At 0:37, millenials or zoomers would probably respond "Ariel".
This is the only mermaid film that doesn't make me feel uncontrollable amounts of hate. This is because it isn't a musical like The Little Mermaid and Madison's happiness isn't sickening it's cute and endearing. In The Little Mermaid Ariel's happiness and wonder is sickening because it's a Disney Princess film and almost every 5 seconds she sings.
Unlike Ariel, Madison is an ADULT (presumably in her 20s), so she doesn’t come with the stereotypical teenage traits of selfishness and impulsivity that Ariel has. Sure, like Ariel, Madison may start off as dopey and naive on land, since she’s a literal fish out of water, BUT unlike Ariel, Madison shows herself to be *a quick learner (as evidenced by her learning English from watching six consecutive hours of TV, and by her being able to ice skate in one try despite never being exposed to ice),* as well as someone who can *easily navigate around the human world in her own way (as evidenced by her ability to convince the male construction workers that instead of paying for the soon-to-be demolished mermaid fountain with hard cash, Madison will instead trade in her NECKLACE for the mermaid fountain that would then be installed in Allen’s bedroom thanks to Madison’s instruction).* It also helps that unlike Ariel who spied on Eric from afar and was convinced that Eric was the one for her despite knowing nothing about him, Madison had already met Allen when they were LITTLE KIDS in the film’s prologue. Sure the two never shared a verbal conversation, obviously due to being underwater, BUT the young Madison could still sense the young Allen’s KIND, LOVING NATURE towards her as evidenced by *Allen reaching out his hand for Madison to grab and Allen staring happily into Madison’s eyes.* Yes, the prologue in “Splash” is very much a “love at first sight” scenario, but it’s meant to show that Allen and Madison were destined to be together, as they both waited 20 years to reunite as adults and consummate their love. Furthermore, unlike Ariel, Madison doesn’t give up her world to be with Allen on land, but rather ALLEN gives up his world to be with Madison 🎶under the sea🎶. It’s weird how “Splash” (which was released under Disney’s “Touchstone Films” banner) PREDATES Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” by five years because “Splash” feels like a response to the criticisms levied against “The Little Mermaid”. 😂 What happened to feminism between 1984 and 1989? 😂
@@beethovensfidelio That's a really good comparison between the characters. Madison is 100% better than Ariel.
@@willfomes406 Ariel is not my favorite movie mermaid, since that obviously goes to Madison in “Splash”, but I don’t despise her either since my autistic self can relate to Ariel feeling like no one understands her “special interest” in human culture (for me, my special interests include collecting sheet music; listening to Israeli pop singers like Ofra Haza and Yardena Arazi; and obsessing over 80s movies that deserve more love like “Splash” and “For Keeps?”). Plus I love Ariel’s design, which ironically came about because the animators didn’t want to turn Ariel into an animated version of Madison. 😂
@@willfomes406 It’s worth noting that the original ending of “Splash” didn't have Allen (Tom Hanks) jumping in the water to be with Madison (Daryl Hannah). HOWEVER, according to director Ron Howard in the DVD commentary for “Splash”, the ending was changed to have the lovers swim off in the ocean thanks to the suggestions of *Ron’s wife, producer Brian Grazer's wife, AND the wives of screenwriters Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel* (in fact, Babaloo's wife went as far as saying to Babaloo, *”If he doesn't go, you go!”).* Even the June 1984 issue of the British sci-fi magazine “Starburst” corroborated this, by having Ron Howard state: *”At one point we didn’t really go for a happy ending, more for a bittersweet one. Actually all of our wives protested about that so much that we listened to them - and I’m so glad we did!”.* Source of quote above: archive.org/details/Starburst_Magazine_071_1984-06_Marvel-UK/page/n17/mode/1up
@@willfomes406 Contrast that with “The Little Mermaid” where NO WOMEN (not even the wives of directors and screenwriters John Musker and Ron Clements) were consulted for the script, which might explain the feminist backlash against Ariel changing herself in order to be with Eric on land.
oh boy
Still a better love story than Hallmark movies.
Unlike most Hallmark movies where it’s the woman giving up her career, her home, and her friends to marry some generic hot guy, it’s the MAN giving up his career, his home, and his friends to be with the mermaid he loves under the sea.
I consider this and You've Got Mail (where the leads speak like they're Dawson's Creek characters) to be my favorite Hanks romcoms.
First Disney movie with nudity, right?
Female nudity to be more precise, since before “Splash”, there was “Pollyanna” which opens with a closeup of a BOY’S butt as he swings on a rope to go skinny dipping with his buddies; and there also was “Never Cry Wolf” in which there’s brief nudity of Charles Martin Smith both front and back as he runs with the caribou.
Joan has always been Hilarious! 😁❤️
